Halloween Information
Third Grade Mr. Gavin’s Class: Halloween Information
Good morning parents,
I just want to clarify a few things about Halloween tomorrow and Friday.
Thursday: October 29, 2020
Students can wear costume all day if they feel comfortable and don’t need to change into any different clothes
Students who want wear their costume but take it off after the parade part must wear their gym uniform underneath the costume, and bring a bag to put the costume into so it doesn’t get damaged
If someone wears face paint they will not be able to wash it off so please know that before choosing to wear it
The parade will be done in the cafeteria one class at a time socially distant with masks on
The students are allowed to dress down if they want they just need to bring in a dress down pass, if they are going to take off their costume and not be in their gym uniform underneath ( if they are staying in their costume the entire time that is not dressing down)
All virtual students who want to participate just need to wear a costume and have their parent take a picture and email it to Mrs. Sevag and Mr. G. the address are jsevag@sksschool.org and mgavin@sksschool.org,. Please have the picture to us by the end of the day tomorrow or sooner.
Virtual Students do not need to log on to class tomorrow until after Recess because of all the interruptions that will be happening because of the parade. So that time will be 10:40
Friday October 30, 2020
Dress for Friday is gym uniforms or Halloween colors, no charge it is a free dress down in Halloween colors.
Halloween party will be after Recess and before lunch
The Halloween parade video will be at 1:40 I think ?????
Virtual students come to class normal time on Friday
Virtual students can come to the party if they want
Virtual students will be aloud to log off from school after lunch
They can watch the parade on the school youtube channel at 1:40 I think ????
Parents,
I hope this will clear up any questions about the next two days. Any other questions just email or call and I will get back to you. Happy Halloween!
Mr. G

Things going on in class
Dear Parents, October 26, 2020
Here is a glance at what we have covered so far this September and October. We have completed four chapters in Religion. Jesus has been our main focus for the first three. What a great way to start the school year off by learning from the best! In math we have been focusing on estimating, rounding, and adding multiple numbers in addition. In Reading we are on our fourth story in the first Unit of our journey’s book. We have read stories like A Fine, Fine, School, The Trial of Cardigan Jones, Destiny’s Gift, and this week Pop’s Bridge. In English and Writing our focus has been on sentences. The kinds of sentences and subjects and predicates.
The class has had some fun along the way making our scary spelling word posters, several science experiments like elephant toothpaste, and games like Sparkle for review before our spelling tests. I have enjoyed being back and teaching your children. It brings me joy and comfort to be back in school. I love the routine and seeing the kids every morning when they come in slowly and they say good morning to me. I have enjoyed spooking out my class room and can’t wait to decorate my room for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
It has been a struggle for all of us wearing masks, taking mask breaks, getting outside for class and lunch. I am trying my hardest to make it comfortable at the same time safe for all in my class. I am always trying to do what is right for your children. They are trying very hard. Please continue to drill in their heads that they need to always wear their masks. When they are eating something they can’t talk. Please make sure they have a good book to read. As the weather changes I will keep you up to date on how I will keep the kids entertained when they are not outside for recess. I have some ideas and I might need your help.
Last week was a tough week. We had to have several of my students stay home from school. It is never easy for anyone to find out that one day you are in school and the next you can’t go for a week or two. What is most important is that when this happened we all came together to help each other out. I will always be there for you. I will do whatever I can for you, your families, and especially my students.' I want everyone to know this could happen to any one of us. It is nobody's fault. This is a terrible disease that we just don’t have enough information about. It will take time for all of this to get better. I pray every day that God will help our world find a cure.
Thanks,
Mr. G

Dear Parents October Update
Dear Parents, October 9, 2020
I wanted to check in and let you know how things are going in our class. The children and I seem to be settling in nicely. They are working hard everyday to stay in school. I would like to clarify some things going forward that you might have some questions about. I would also like you to remind your children of a few things as well.
Clarifying some possible questions you might have so far:
How many times are we getting out for mask breaks? On average at least 3 times a day
How many times are we getting outside for class? On average at least 2 times a week
How many times are we eating outside? Once or twice a week
What do I do with tests, when my child comes home with them? Please sign and put back into the test folder, also please be checking up on your child’s grades through Option C
What are the kids going to do when the weather is not that great and we have to stay inside? I plan on having them color, draw, watch a movie, or read silently.
What do I do if my child stays home and is not feeling well? Let them rest and feel better.
Do they have to go Virtual if they stay home sick? No because they are not feeling well.
What do I do if my child is feeling better but I want to keep him or her home for a couple days? Please contact me to set a time to pick up after school the required supplies needed for school.
What can I do to help my child ? You can just continue to encourage your child to do their very best.
Please remind your child to:
Always eat a good breakfast
Wear their mask
Bring a good book to read in school
Listen to the teacher
Smile everyday

Weather Experiments
Yesterday in Science I did four weather related experiments for both My class and Mrs. Bondi's class in Science. If your child came home last night and asked for different materials to try one or two of the experiments. Sorry for not giving you a heads up until now. The kids love the experiments and I plan on trying to do them every two weeks. I will try and coordinate the experiments with what we are learning in class that week or the up and coming week. Below are a few pictures of some of the experiments we did yesterday.

Our Spooky Classroom
It is now the month of October. Halloween one of my favorite holidays will be here soon. Along with all of the hard work the kids are doing, I want to start to spook out my classroom. I wanted to share a few photos of how the room looks so you can have a view of what the kids see everyday when they walk into my spooky classroom. I hope we are allowed to do something fun this year for Halloween! Be sure to ask your children about the Halloween jokes, riddles, and journal entries for this month.
